Many celebrities, including Beyoncè, say they use the cabbage soup diet when they have a major event coming up and need to shed 10 pounds quickly. This diet requires the dieter to follow a strict diet routine for seven days, but promises great results for those who have the will power to stick to it.
This diet is based around eating cabbage soup daily for the course of the diet. As monotonous as that sounds, you are allowed to integrate other things into your diet besides the soup.
Items Needed Before You Can Begin This Diet
The following are the ingredients needed to make the soup:
- six large green onions
- two green peppers
- two cans of diced tomatoes
- three carrots
- one 10 oz container of pre-sliced mushrooms
- four stalks of celery
- half a head of cabbage
- one package of onion soup mix
- 48oz of tomato juice (such as V8)
- 12 cups of water
- salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic powder, and herbs to season to taste.
Here are the steps to make the soup:
- Spray a large stock pot with fat free non stick spray.
- Slice the green onions and sauté in the stock pot.
- Chop the green peppers, carrots, celery, and cabbage into bite size pieces then add them to the pot.
- Add in water, tomatoes, soup mix, and tomato juice.
- Bring soup to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer for two hours.
- Taste the soup and add seasoning as needed.
The Cabbage Soup Diet Basics
The general guidelines for this seven day program are as follows:
- You can eat as much soup as you want. It is recommended that you eat your soup at least two times daily.
- You can eat all of the food outlined for each day as you wish. This is important so the body does not get hungry. Hunger is the true enemy of any diet.
- Follow this plan for only seven days at a time. If you wish to do another round of the diet you should wait at least two weeks.
- The only drinks allowed on this program are unsweetened tea, cranberry juice, and water.
- You should always consult with your health care provider before beginning any diet program.
The program is simple to follow, but you will need to exercise a lot of will power. Here is the daily break down for the cabbage soup diet:
- Day one: Eat fresh fruits with the exception of bananas.
- Day two: Eat fresh vegetables. For dinner eat a baked potato with butter.
- Day three: Combine days one and two, but no baked potato.
- Day four: Eat plenty of bananas and drink skim milk. This day is designed to help reduce cravings for sweets.
- Day five: Eat 10-20 ounces of beef and up to six tomatoes. It is important to ensure you drink plenty of water on this day to help flush uric acid out of the body. Skinless chicken can be substituted for beef.
- Day six: Consume all the fresh vegetables and beef that you would like.
- Day seven: Eat brown rice and drink unsweetened fruit juices. You can incorporate fresh vegetables again on this day.
It is a great idea to write out a detailed grocery list of the things you would like for each day. For example if you enjoy eating fresh grapes and kiwi, then it would be great to have those for day one. Having things readily available that you enjoy will make it easier to stick to the plan. Stick to this diet and you will not only lose weight fast, but you will feel better about yourself and be able to choose healthier options once the diet is over.
